How to re-connect with Jesus when you’re spiritually numb
Why do I feel numb?
Hey sis! I’m wondering if you’re feeling a bit blah these days? Are you wanting to get closer to God spiritually but feel a bit stuck…a bit meh…a bit spiritually numb?…
If you are, I’m here to tell you you’re not alone, and that there’s nothing WRONG with you either.
As I’ve taken a step back from my own seasons of spiritual numbness, I realized a few things that tend to perpetuate our mental numbness, sooner or later making the trek south to settle deep in our hearts in the form of discouragement and longing for Him.
If you’re in a season of feeling far from God, I have 7 simple ways for you to practice getting unstuck today!
But before you jump ahead to figure out how to reconnect with God, I need you to know that simplicity shouldn’t be underrated. Nor should grace 😘.
How to stop feel spiritually numb
The road we walked to get to where we are now is a long one filled with unforeseen circumstances, distractions and plain ‘ole stubbornness (I know I’m not the only one looking sideways at this equation wondering what to try next).
So, as we consider these 7 easy steps, let’s first extend an extra measure of grace to ourselves as we re-learn the simple acts of obedience and practiced gratitude that re-connects our spirit to His:
- Get Outside
- Sis, we were made to embrace Creation. When the busyness of life has you numb to the intimacy Jesus provides, it’s time to get back to the basics and connect with ourselves and our Creator.
- Work With Your Hands
- Sometimes, we feel numb because we’re overstimulated by the weight of worries that we can’t solve. Help your mind decompress by using your hands to sew, paint, plant, or play an instrument.
- Bake Your Favorite Dish
- Numbness in our relationship with Jesus is a symptom of excess noise, prolonged states of crisis, or lack of margins. Spending time in the kitchen following a step-by-step recipe helps your brain untangle all the details making you feel stuck.
- Connect With A Friend Face To Face
- Isolation not only snuffs out our desire to connect with people, but it also convinces us that people don’t want to connect with us either. Make a coffee date to catch up with a friend for an instant debunking of Satan’s schemes.
- Practice Guided Meditation
- When we’re in the habit of not gating our mental inputs, implementing the practice of guided meditation helps to re-train our brains to slow down in order to surrender those intrusive thoughts that prevent us from connecting with Him.
- Walk It Out
- In our numbness, we lack the motivation to get up and be active. Our inactivity further perpetuates our disconnectedness with Jesus, and relationships in general. It’s time to reset our thoughts by walking it out in the crisp air of possibilities.
- Unplug From Your Devices
- No.more.screens! But seriously, if connecting with Jesus is a struggle, it’s time to assess what you run to most throughout your day. Start your day by waking up to a real clock and not your phone alarm. Brew your coffee or steep your tea uninterrupted by screens. Then, get into the Word.
